Plantae 2025 : My first exhibition in the botanical world
In early 2025, I took a leap of faith and submitted two works to the prestigious Plantae exhibition. I am thrilled to announce that one of my pieces was selected for this exhibition!!!
My work, a graphite illustration, was produced during my artistic residency in Cairns, Australia, and is titled “Male Sunbird Approaching Jade Vine Nectar”. This piece is particularly distinctive for its unconventional format, a circular composition measuring 50 cm in diameter.
It is with a great sense of pride and excitement that I look forward to the exhibition at London’s Mall Galleries, running from May 28th to June 7th, 2025.
A long-awaited return to London
I am particularly happy to be going back to London because I lived there for a year in 2017. I’m feeling very nostalgic!
I have booked a hostel near my old neighborhood, close to Borough Market. I am really looking forward to visiting my favorite coffee shop again and wandering through the streets I used to walk every day.
The exhibition and meeting other botanical artists
The moment to visit the exhibition finally arrives. I go to the opening night to discover all the selected works, and especially to meet the botanical artists behind these magnificent pieces.
Seeing drawings and paintings on Instagram is nice, but seeing them in person is something else! You can really see the fine details and the true colors, things that are sometimes hard to appreciate in a photo.
The artworks are organized by medium. There is a section for watercolor illustrations, another for colored pencils, one for graphite, and even an area for jewelry. In short, there is something for everyone!
I had a wonderful evening and left feeling inspired, full of new ideas, and very motivated to keep drawing and painting.
